The Prince of Darkness is far from done. Despite years of health challenges and talk of retirement, Ozzy Osbourne is proving once again that his love for music knows no bounds — and this time, he’s opening up about his upcoming solo album in a heartfelt update directed at his daughter, Kelly Osbourne.
In a candid and revealing interview this week, Ozzy gave fans a peek behind the curtain at what he’s been working on in the studio, and what’s coming next in his legendary career. And if anyone thought Ozzy might be slowing down, the man himself is here to set the record straight.
“I’ve got one singer on it,” he said with a grin. “Just me. That’s all you need, right?”
The 76-year-old rock icon is referring to his still-untitled follow-up to Patient Number 9 — the critically-acclaimed 2022 release that featured an all-star cast including Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Tony Iommi. But this time around, Ozzy says he’s focused on creating something that’s a little more stripped down, and a lot more personal.
“This one’s different,” he told Kelly during their recent family chat. “It’s not about the guests. It’s about me. My voice. My story.”
A Personal Mission
Ozzy’s upcoming album is more than just a musical project — it’s a mission. Following a string of health setbacks over the past several years, including surgery on his spine and a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease, many wondered if Ozzy would return to the studio at all. But as Kelly says, the idea of her father giving up on music just doesn’t fit.
“He’s unstoppable,” she told a friend recently. “Even when he’s in pain, even when he’s tired — if he can sing, he’s gonna sing.”
Ozzy confirms the sentiment: “I can’t stop making music. It’s all I know. It’s what keeps me going. I wake up, I hum something, and boom — I’m writing again.”
And while his past two albums (Ordinary Man in 2020 and Patient Number 9) were heavily collaborative, Ozzy says this new record is shaping up to be more intimate and introspective.
“I’ve got some great players on it, don’t get me wrong,” he says. “But this one’s more raw. It’s about what I’ve been through. Where I am now. And where I want to go.”
Kelly’s Reaction
Kelly, who has long been one of her father’s closest confidantes, has been keeping fans updated on his progress through social media. In a recent Instagram story, she shared a short audio clip of Ozzy singing in the studio, paired with the caption: “He’s still got it ”
She also told fans that watching her father create new music again has been “incredibly emotional.”
“There were days we weren’t sure he’d even walk again,” she wrote. “And now he’s in the studio doing what he loves most. It’s honestly magic.”
Ozzy agrees. “This one’s for my family,” he said. “For Kelly, for Sharon, for Jack, for all of them. They’ve been through hell with me, and they’ve stuck around.”
Still the Prince of Darkness
While Ozzy may be leaning into a more vulnerable sound on this record, don’t expect him to go soft. The album, he says, is still packed with the heavy, hard-hitting riffs fans crave — along with a few surprises.
“There’s one track that sounds like Sabbath, there’s one that’s got kind of a punk edge, and another one that’s just… beautiful,” he teased. “And yeah, it’s still dark. I’m still the f***ing Prince of Darkness.”
But perhaps the most surprising element? Ozzy’s renewed vocal strength.
Despite battling several surgeries and a degenerative condition, Ozzy says his voice is stronger than ever, thanks in part to his commitment to physical therapy and vocal training.
“I had to relearn some things. But the voice — it’s still in there. Just needed to wake it up.”
No Release Date Yet — But It’s Coming
While no official release date has been announced, Ozzy says the album is “getting close.” He’s already recorded seven tracks and is aiming for a total of ten to twelve songs.
“We’re still messing with the mix, maybe writing one or two more,” he says. “But it’s nearly done.”
As for the title? Ozzy’s keeping that a secret — for now.
“Let’s just say it sums up where I’m at. And maybe where we’re all at, in a way.”
Retirement? Not Yet.
And though he previously hinted at stepping away from performing live due to his health, Ozzy says he’s not closing any doors just yet.
“If I can stand, I’ll sing,” he says. “Even if they have to wheel me out on stage like f***ing Hannibal Lecter, I’ll do it.”
Kelly, ever the supportive daughter, is already envisioning the moment.
“I told him, ‘You do whatever makes you happy, Dad. We’ll be there cheering you on — even if you’re doing it from a throne.’”
For now, fans can expect more updates in the coming months — and more than a few surprises from the living legend who refuses to fade quietly into the night.
As Ozzy put it best:
“Music saved my life. Still does. And I ain’t done yet.”
