Excite News: Cleveland Browns Zoning In On Travis Hunter For 2025 Draft Splash
CLEVELAND — April 20, 2025
The Dawg Pound could be getting a major jolt of electricity next year.
Sources close to the Cleveland Browns front office tell Excite News that the team has “serious interest” in Colorado’s two-way phenom Travis Hunter, with early discussions already in motion to position the franchise for a bold move in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The 6-foot-1 Hunter, who’s captivated the college football world with his elite play at both wide receiver and cornerback under coach Deion Sanders, has scouts across the league buzzing. According to insiders, the Browns have already begun evaluating trade-up scenarios that could land them within the top five—where Hunter is widely projected to go.
“They view him as a generational athlete,” a league executive told Excite. “There’s a feeling in that building that he could be their version of Deion [Sanders]—a weapon on both sides of the ball.”
The Browns, who finished the 2024 season strong but outside the elite tier of playoff contenders, may not naturally land a pick high enough to grab Hunter. But General Manager Andrew Berry has a reputation for bold, strategic moves—and his affinity for versatile, high-IQ players makes Hunter a natural target.
What’s the Fit?
With Cleveland’s secondary continuing to evolve and offensive playmakers aging or hitting free agency, Hunter’s rare dual-role potential adds flexibility—and fear—for opponents. Imagine a defense with Denzel Ward and Hunter locking down the perimeter. Or an offense with Deshaun Watson slinging deep balls to Hunter on Sundays.
Sanders, never shy about hyping his star, told reporters last month:
“Travis isn’t just going to the league—he’s going to change the league.”
The Browns might just be buying that vision—and betting their draft future on it.
