Roy Keane and Jill Scott took a shot at Newcastle United and Anthony Gordon on The Overlap.
Roy Keane, the former Sunderland manager, has taken a shot at Newcastle United and Anthony Gordon.
Keane featured on The Overlap with Wearside-born Jill Scott, former teammate Gary Neville, and ex-England players Ian Wright and Jamie Carragher. Following the show’s interview with Anthony Gordon earlier this week, the Newcastle United winger became a topic of discussion.
During the conversation with Neville, Gordon outlined his ambition and highlighted his choice to quit his boyhood club, Everton, repeating his desire to win trophies throughout his career. Gordon transferred from the Toffees to the Magpies for £40 million in January 2023.
“Do you know what I asked him, by the way?” Neville said something throughout the conversation. I said. ‘To be honest with you, I couldn’t understand why Chelsea bid £40 million for you and Newcastle bid £40 million for you…’ I couldn’t understand why because he wasn’t that caliber of player.”
Keane immediately interrupted, saying, “Yeah, but he went to a club that hasn’t won anything in 50 years, lads, so he isn’t that smart.” “He’s not very smart.”
Wright said, “Yeah, but he’ll try to assist them accomplish it. “He is the type of player who can assist them.”
