The Green Bay Packers are tremendously hopeful about their franchise’s future. Just one year after dealing Aaron Rodgers, the Packers are poised to be a contender in 2024. That says much about the front office’s efforts to keep the team competitive.
Julian Edelman, a former New England Patriots wide receiver, spotted the wide receivers in Green Bay and took the time to comment on them.
Julian Edelman, the Super Bowl champion wide receiver, discusses the current state of the Green Bay Packers.
During an interview with Heavy, Edelman discussed his involvement with Bud Light’s Easy Wishes NFL Draft Experience.
During the conversation, Edelman discussed Green Bay’s wide receiver room. Though he wasn’t high on any single player, he had a highly bright view for the squad as a whole.
“I don’t think they have a number one receiver,” Edelman told Heavy. “They have a lot of incredibly good prospective players who haven’t even reached their prime…However, it is preferable to have something similar. It teaches the quarterback to pass to the correct place. You don’t feel compelled to throw the target at the angry guy.”
“Let’s let this thing develop,” he remarked. “Perhaps one of these players will have a dominant season…”It takes time for these players to be able to go out and know what to do when faced with a veteran move.”
“They’ve got something good. They’re young and fresh. “I’m excited to watch the Packers in what appears to be a winnable division.”
The Packers have a very bright future at the wide receiver position.
The Packers had a record-breaking year with their youthful pass catchers. Here are some of the records:
– The Packers established NFL rookie records with 191 catches and 2,250 receiving yards.
— Jayden Reed set a Packers rookie record for catches (64). He is the first Packers rookie to lead the team in catches and receiving yards since Sterling Sharpe in 1988. — Jayden Reed is the first rookie in NFL history to reach 60 catches, 750 receiving yards, eight receiving touchdowns, 100 rushing yards, and two rushing touchdowns. — Six rookies caught touchdown passes, the most by a single squad in the Super Bowl era. — Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks became the first rookies to reach 500 receiving yards since 2014.
Luke Musgrave tied Bubba Franks’ team record of 34 catches by a rookie tight end.
— For the first time in Packers history, four rookies caught at least 30 passes. This marks the first time this has happened in the NFL since 1970. Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft became the first rookie tight end tandem to catch at least 30 catches, 350 receiving yards, and one tight end since Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez in 2010.
The Packers were the first team to have rookies record at least 200 receiving yards in four consecutive regular-season games. The Packers did it in Week 10 (at Pittsburgh), Week 11 (vs. Los Angeles), Week 15 (vs. Tampa Bay), and Week 18 (vs. Chicago). Rookies recorded 19 catches for 235 yards against the Buccaneers, both franchise records.
— Dontayvion Wicks finished second in club history in receiving yards (behind only Max McGee’s 614 yards). He is one of only three fifth-round picks or later to have 500 or more receiving yards in team history, and the 16th in the NFL since 2000.
It’s clear why NFL luminaries like Julian Edelman are interested in the young Packers’ skill position group.
Jordan Love will be able to develop with this group for years to come. Hopefully, this attacking nucleus can stay together for more than one contract. It’ll be intriguing to navigate many contract extensions at the same position in the future years.
