The Green Bay Packers made the agonizing choice to release long-time great David Bakhtiari. Even with a restructure, the $40 million cap hit proved too much to overcome. His recent injury history had a significant role in his release.
Bakhtiari, on the other hand, took to social media following a recent deal.
The Green Bay Packers have signed an offensive tackle.
According to the Packers’ official website:
The Green Bay Packers have signed Tandre Dillard. General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced the transaction Thursday.
Dillard (6-5, 315), a sixth-year Washington State athlete, was taken in the first round (No. 22 overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles. After four years in Philadelphia (2019-22), he spent his final season with the Tennessee Titans (2023). Dillard has appeared in 59 regular-season games, including 19 starts.
In 2023, he tied his career best of 16 games played and made 10 starts. He has also appeared in five postseason games over his career. Dillard started 39 of 42 games in college and was named All-Pac-12 twice. He will wear number 73 for the Packers.
David Bakhtiari had something to say about the signing.
When Bakhtiari noticed the deal, he responded on social media:
Aaron Nagler from Cheesehead TV responded to Bakhtiari’s comment:
It may have stung a little that the Packers signed a veteran left tackle just over a month after releasing him.
It will be interesting to watch where Bakhtiari settles in 2024. He’s made it obvious that he’s not done playing in the NFL.
