Yesterday, April 18th, the Detroit Lions unveiled their new uniforms. Every offseason, a couple of NFL teams reveal their uniforms for the upcoming season. Here’s my thoughts on the Lions’ new uniforms for 2024.
Detroit Lions’ New Digs
The Detroit Lions are only the second club to unveil new uniforms for 2024, trailing the New York Jets. Unfortunately, the Lions were forced to expedite their official release video after the new clothes were leaked.
The Detroit Lions unveiled three new uniforms Wednesday. The Lions’ first two uniforms were ordinary home and away jerseys. Their home and away uniforms are largely unchanged, with only a few minor tweaks. The writing changed from gray to white, while the sleeves received a few modifications. Overall, I appreciate the makeover; it gives them a more modern look.
The other uniform released by the Detroit Lions was highly unexpected. It was a blackout outfit with blue lettering, complete with a blue alternative helmet. This was a great surprise for me, but it looks amazing. I can’t wait to watch them in these blackout threads during a major primetime game.
Overall, I believe the Detroit Lions made the appropriate decision to modernize their prior designs. Even though the changeover from gray to white looks terrific, I will miss the all-gray outfits.
Other new NFL uniforms.
This year, five teams are set to introduce new uniforms: the Texans, Broncos, Lions, Jets, and Jaguars. All of these teams plan to reveal new uniforms in the weeks leading up to the 2024 NFL draft. The Jets debuted their new uniforms earlier this week, which were fairly similar to their old ones but also featured a new logo.
There have been a few teasers and leaks about the Texans’ new uniforms, including photographs of new jerseys and a leak of a possible alternate helmet. Nothing has been made official, but the Texans will reveal all of their new uniforms next Tuesday, April 23rd.
The Denver Broncos, like the Texans, are slated to debut their new uniforms early next week. The Broncos’ offseason chatter about new uniforms has been almost exactly the opposite of the Texans. While the Texans have had photographs and most of their clothes leaked, the Broncos have been very quiet and will debut their new jerseys on April 22nd.
On the other side, the Jacksonville Jaguars are slated to introduce a throwback jersey in 2024. Following the use of throwback jerseys by many teams in 2023, many Jaguars fans wanted the team to bring back a previous jersey. There is no set date for when the Jaguars will unveil their throwbacks.
