The Green Bay Packers have undoubtedly moved on from some offensive players in recent years. The unofficial youth movement has ushered in a new era in Green Bay. Despite this, they remain the favorite to make the playoffs in 2024. Given that the Packers traded away four-time MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers only one offseason ago, this is an incredible position to be in.
Today, it was announced that one former wide receiver had joined another NFC opponent.
Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver signs with the New Orleans Saints.
According to the New Orleans Saints’ official website:
New Orleans Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis announced today that the club has reached an agreement with unrestricted free agent wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown (pronounced eck-wah-nihm-ee-ous).
St. Brown, 6-5, 214 pounds, is a six-year NFL veteran who was drafted in the sixth round (207th overall) by the Green Bay Packers out of Notre Dame in 2018. St. Brown appeared in 60 regular season games with the Packers (2018-21) and the Chicago Bears (2022-23), starting 28 of them, and has 63 receptions for 928 yards and two touchdowns in his career.
St. Brown has also run 11 times for 80 yards, made seven special teams tackles, and returned a kickoff for 17 yards. In three postseason games for the Packers, including one start, he had two receptions for 37 yards, one carry for one yard, and three special teams stops.
Equanimeous St. Brown never got going with the Packers or Bears.
St. Brown has been in the league for five seasons. Three with the Packers, two with the Bears. During that time, he has never amassed more than 328 receiving yards in a season. His lone touchdowns came in 2020 and 2022.
It will be interesting to see if he can get going in a Derek Carr-led offense in New Orleans. He could have several opportunities as he joins a large receiving corps that includes Chris Olave, Rashid Shaheed, Cedrick Wilson Jr., Stanley Morgan, and A.T. Perry.
St. Brown is currently 27 years old and hopes to show himself and get a substantial contract in the league before his 30th birthday.
