The Green Bay Packers hold the 25th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Many mock drafts predict that they will select a cornerback in the 2024 NFL Draft. The NFL Draft is barely three weeks away on Thursday in Detroit, Michigan, and it is unclear what the Packers’ plans are for those picks.
They will have 11 picks in the draft. It will be intriguing to see what General Manager Brian Gutekunst decides to do. Some of the positions required are safety, cornerback, offensive line, and running back. The defensive philosophy has altered, and they need help on the back end despite adding a handful of free players, which will mean the difference between winning and losing next season.
According to Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports, the Green Bay Packers are selecting a cornerback. Kool-Aid McKinstry of Alabama is the 25th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Without a doubt, the Packers need help at cornerback. Jaire Alexander, like Erik Stokes, has been suffering with injuries for the past year. Kool-Aid McKinstry has the potential to be an NFL starter right away. According to Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports, the Green Bay Packers could possibly choose him.
“The Packers have a history of only drafting defensive players in the first round, so I’m not going to break tradition here; Alabama believes Kool-Aid McKinstry has legitimate NFL cover skills — the only question will be his deep speed — and he answered those questions at his pro day by running a 4.47-second 40-yard dash. As an added benefit, he can also be useful in the return game.
During the college football season with the Alabama Crimson Tide, he recorded 32 total tackles, seven pass deflections, and zero interceptions. McKinstry and Terron Arnold, who is expected to be a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, were the football program’s cornerback duo. Alabama advanced to the college football playoffs this season before losing to the Michigan Wolverines in overtime.
They are both good starting cornerbacks, but McKinstry may be the better option over Arnold. Kool-Aid McKinstry stands 6’1″ and weighs 195 pounds. McKinstry and Jaire Alexander would be an excellent Packers tandem if they could both remain healthy. Because Green Bay needs more depth at the cornerback position, this may not be the only option they consider. This would be an excellent decision for this pick, and it would not be a stretch at all.
