Davis is a reliable runner. He’s a fluid, efficient operator behind the line of scrimmage with controlled footwork and the decisiveness you’d expect from a seasoned running back. He backs up that rushing technique with great balance, demonstrating the ability to avoid poor tackling attempts and stay on his feet.
Davis could use more force when facing tacklers head on, but he still tends to fall forward for extra gain. He also demonstrates adequate change-of-direction abilities for a thicker back. He does a good job of redirecting his path at both the line of scrimmage and the second level.
However, Davis lacks the explosive ability to make a regular difference. Davis’ long speed is respectable, but he frequently lacks burst after changing directions and may take a few strides to start moving. He also lacks the lateral explosiveness to consistently force opponents to miss.
Davis performs better than average on passing downs. He’s a consistent pass catcher who has shown the ability to work downfield on wheels and seam routes. Davis is an excellent pass protector with good vision, demeanor, and anchoring ability. Davis’ technique occasionally fails him, particularly his hand placement, although this can be improved with good instruction.
Davis is capable of immediately contributing to any offensive. He is familiar with all types of run-game approaches, and he possesses the size and efficient rushing abilities to become a quality runner sooner rather later. Davis’ lack of explosive qualities may restrict his potential, but he meets all of the criteria for a strong three-down back.
