Kevin Clark interviewed Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane for his show, This is Football, during the league meetings. Clark’s typical question to GMs is which player they would like to evaluate and draft again.
Beane’s answer is Puka Nacua, a Los Angeles Rams wide receiver. And for obvious reasons. Nacua went on to set multiple rookie receiving records, including receptions and receiving yards, while being passed over 176 times.
Beane has attempted to select at the position with variable results, but no one has had the record-breaking season that Nacua did in 2023.
Beane seems to have the Rams team’s building strategies (successes and failures) in mind. Before last year’s draft, Beane provided a Rams-like example of how not to design a squad, saying,
Nacua ended up getting picked in the fifth round, 177th overall. The Bills made four selections at that position, including WR Justin Shorter of Florida with pick 150. To be fair to Mr. Beane, the Rams underestimated Nacua as well. They had chosen seven guys before 177 and three players before him in the fifth round.
