The Green Bay Packers selected Jordan Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL draft. At the time, Aaron Rodgers was still under contract for the foreseeable future, so this choice was closely scrutinized.
Rodgers won back-to-back MVP honors over the next two years (some say this was motivated by his draft pick). However, both sides decided to part ways after the 2022 season. Love had the opportunity to show Packers fans and the rest of the NFL that drafting him early was not a mistake.
Love finished the 2023 season with more than 4,000 throwing yards, 30 passing touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. The Packers fell three points short of making the NFC Championship game as well. Going into the upcoming season, Jordan Love is clearly a leader and someone the club looks up to. Fans took note when he said something about standout cornerback Jaire Alexander.
Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love speaks out about star cornerback Jaire Alexander. Alexander has made it clear that he has an outgoing personality. Alexander is unique in everything he does, from interviews to field celebrations to visiting a local news reporter.
When Jordan Love was asked “what is wrong with Jaire Alexander,” he said this:
Alexander’s sixth NFL season was hampered by injuries and a suspension, but he still managed to make 27 tackles.
The two-time All-Pro is currently signed through 2026 and received a $8 million roster bonus for being on the club on March 20th.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the bonus served as a “trigger point” in the Packers’ choice to keep or move Alexander.
Alexander has missed three games this season due to a back injury, six due to a shoulder injury, and one due to a suspension for appointing himself team captain prior to a coin toss against the Carolina Panthers on December 24.
Regardless of your personal feelings about Jaire, it appears that the Packers and their players enjoy having him on the team, and that will not change anytime soon.
