The Green Bay Packers made the contentious choice to part ways with Aaron Rodgers following the 2022 season. In a stunning trade, the Packers send Rodgers to the New York Jets only days before the 2023 NFL Draft.
That transfer began the Jordan Love era in Green Bay. At the end of the 2023-24 season, most Packers supporters thought it was the right decision. Love demonstrated that he possesses the necessary skills to lead his team to the playoffs and even the Super Bowl.
However, that did not prevent a former Packers wide receiver from publicly expressing his feelings about Rodgers.
A former Green Bay Packers wide receiver had a lot to say about Aaron Rodgers.
According to Adam Wells from Bleacher Report:
Aaron Rodgers received high praise from a wide receiver who spent four seasons catching his passes with the Green Bay Packers.
On CBS Sports Radio’s The Zach Gelb Show, Marquez Valdes-Scantling described Rodgers as “one of the greatest teammates” he’s ever had.
Valdes-Scantling played the first four years of his NFL career with the Packers. He was drafted in the fifth round in 2018 and quickly established himself as a standout receiver for Rodgers.
The 29-year-old averaged 17.5 yards per reception in 59 games for the Packers. It is the fifth-highest yards per catch average of any player in franchise history who has made at least 100 receptions.
During the 2020 season, when Rodgers won his third of four MVP awards, Valdes-Scantling topped the league in receiving yards per reception with 20.9 and six touchdowns.
Would Marquez-Valdes Scantling rejoin Rodgers?
Nobody was stunned when the Chiefs cut veteran wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling after the 2023 season. Despite his three-year, $30 million contract, the South Florida product has failed to meet expectations heading into a key offseason.
Despite the Chiefs’ intentions to give Valdes-Scantling “a head start on free agency,” he has not benefited from his early release. There have been few genuine references to him from other teams.
True, he was a consistent member of the Chiefs’ wide receiving corps, and he shown mental toughness by recovering from more bad than good performances. In contrast, he was a statistical disappointment.
His play with Rodgers earned him his three-year contract. Is it feasible that the Jets will bring in another of Rodgers’ former teammates?
