In recent years, the Green Bay Packers have parted ways with several seasoned players. Many of those former athletes have made some unexpected moves since their release.
One of the Packers’ most recently released players made another shocking decision that sparked debate among fans.
Green Bay Packers’ General Manager Brian Gutekunst Commented On Aaron Jones’ Decision.
In a press conference Monday at the league’s owners’ meeting, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst was asked about his choice to let Jones go.
“We wish him well,” Gutekunst remarked (via Ryan Wood). “He couldn’t have represented us any better in his time with us.”
The Packers shocked everyone when they moved on from Jones.
According to Jovan Alford from FanSided:
Gutenkunst also stated in the same breath that the decision was difficult, considering Jones was a highly effective player. The Packers are hoping Jacobs can match or exceed Jones’ performance throughout his several years with the franchise.
Jones finished his Packers career with 5,940 running yards and 45 touchdowns on the ground. He also contributed to Green Bay’s passing game, totaling 272 receptions (364 targets) for 2,076 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Jacobs, 26, has 805 running yards and six touchdowns on 233 carries across 13 games last season, following a record-setting 2022 season. Meanwhile, Jones has signed a one-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings after being released by the Packers.
