Bryce Harper had a standout day for the Philadelphia Phillies, hitting three home runs, including a grand slam, in a 9-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds.
Brandon Marsh also scored a home run. The Phillies were able to recover from their earlier loss in the series opener.
Spencer Turnbull delivered a strong showing, striking out seven batters in five innings.
Harper had struggled in prior games, but he had a standout performance against the Reds. He smashed solo home runs in the first and fourth innings before finishing with a grand slam in the seventh.
Harper’s second three-homer game resulted in a career-high six RBIs.
Reds manager David Bell praised Harper’s superb performance and credited him with defeating them. The game also included five mistakes, including two by Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz.
Ricardo Pinto of the Philadelphia Phillies made his first major league appearance since 2019 and recorded his first career save. Pinto was added to the roster after right-handed pitcher Connor Brogdon was designated for assignment.
Despite travel obstacles, Pinto attended the game and emphasized his desire to return to the major leagues.
