The Green Bay Packers have discovered a plethora of promising young receivers, but one trade suggestion would see the team acquire Tee Higgins before the 2024 NFL Draft.
Sayre Bedinger of Lombardi Avenue posted their newest seven-round mock draft, which includes a trade for the Higgins. The Packers selected offensive tackle Amarius Mims and linebacker Edgerrin Cooper with their first two picks before trading for the Cincinnati Bengals’ star wide receiver.
Packers acquire WR Tee Higgins.
Bengals acquire a 2024 second-round pick and a future draft pick.
“The Packers proved with the Josh Jacobs move that they are willing to move on from established players to get even better guys in the building,” he wrote. “Having Higgins involved in the passing game would take Green Bay’s offense to the next level. If Higgins is genuinely on the market, the Packers would be foolish not to investigate.
Tee Higgins Could be on the Move
Whether or if the Packers are interested in Higgins, the 25-year-old could still play for another team in 2024 or 2025.
Higgins, a former second-round choice from Clemson, has proven to be a consistent weapon for the Bengals. He has 257 receptions for 3,684 yards and 24 touchdowns in four seasons but has yet to sign a long-term contract deal.
Instead of extending Higgins, the Bengals franchise tagged him, giving him a $21.8 million contract until 2024. That hasn’t gone over well with Higgins, who has demanded a trade to a new squad.
Duke Tobin, the Bengals’ director of player personnel, has not ruled out a possible trade. Despite this, head coach Zac Taylor has made it apparent that he intends to have Higgins in the building for the 2024 season.
There has been no progress on a potential Higgins trade yet, but there is still plenty of time in the offseason. If the Bengals are unable to reach an agreement on an extension for their top wide receiver, they may continue to negotiate until the trade deadline midway through the 2024 season.
Are the Packers in need of another wide receiver?
Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst may want to add a more experienced receiver, but the team already has plenty of youthful talent at the position.
A healthy Christian Watson may be lethal in Green Bay’s offense following a strong rookie season. Unfortunately, ongoing hamstring ailments kept him off the field for much of 2023. He hopes to have a breakout third season as long as he stays healthy.
Last season, Romeo Doubs emerged as one of Green Bay’s most consistent touchdown threats. He caught eight touchdowns on just 59 receptions, adding 234 yards and a score on 10 postseason catches.
Last year, rookies and unknown commodities stood out. Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks looked like future stars in their rookie seasons, and even Malik Heath showed some promise as an undrafted free agent. Meanwhile, second-year wideout Bo Melton finished the year with six catches for 105 yards and a touchdown in a crucial victory over the Minnesota Vikings.
With so many young wide receivers still developing, Gutekunst may decide it’s best to let these youngsters develop with Jordan Love.
