The Michigan Wolverines have been one of the biggest stories of the college football offseason. After Jim Harbaugh left for the NFL, Sherrone Moore took command and stabilized the program. He not only kept players and recruits, but he also hired many top-tier position coaches. One of those coaches has gotten into a little trouble. Greg Scruggs, the new defensive line coach, was detained early Saturday morning for operating while intoxicated.
Michigan Wolverines DL Coach Greg Scruggs Arrested.
Angelique Chengelis of The Detroit News was the first to report the news. A communications manager for the Ann Arbor police department stated, “I can confirm he [Scruggs] was arrested for OWI by our department just before 3 a.m.” There are extremely few specifics because a police report is not accessible at this time. However, an OWI can result in 93 days in jail, a $100-500 fine, and a six-month suspension of a driver’s license. The 33-year-old coach is sure to reach an agreement to avoid jail time, but this is not a good image.
What Does This Mean for the Program?
This is unlikely to have a significant impact on the program. It will have far more of an impact on Scruggs’ personal life than on the squad. No doubt, he will pay a fee or have his license suspended. Scruggs has had similar problems in the past. He was kicked from the squad at the University of Louisville in 2011 after being charged with DUI.
The hope is that Greg Scruggs will obtain the assistance he requires. The Michigan Wolverines will most certainly help in any manner they can to get their young coach back on track.
