The Detroit Lions were one of the most compelling tales of the 2023 season. They played their first NFC Championship game in decades and came close to earning their first Super Bowl appearance. They did, however, suffer a crushing loss to the San Francisco 49ers. As the offseason began, many were hopeful about their chances in 2024. ESPN’s Mike Greenberg does not share this optimism.
Mike Greenberg believes the Detroit Lions “missed their window”
believes the Green Bay Packers are simply better.
“I believe they missed their window. I believe they had a shot at the championship last year. I believe they are being surpassed in their own division. “I believe Green Bay is now better than them.”
He was impressed with the Packers’ efforts to restock after dealing Aaron Rodgers to the Jets. His second point is that we’ve said this previously about other clubs. We were confident the Buffalo Bills would bounce back after losing to the Chiefs in the memorable 13-second game. People expected the Bengals to run the AFC with Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase. Neither of these things occurred. Nothing is certain in the NFL.
Does Greenberg Have a Point?
It’s debatable who has the best team. The Detroit Lions aren’t without talent, and they’ve made some good signings in free agency. However, his second point remains relevant. Nothing is certain in the NFL. The Bills are still unable to get over the hump and are entirely rebuilding the team. Last year, Cincinnati coped with injuries, and the youthful team has paid the price. Dan Marino made the Super Bowl in his second season, and everyone expected him to win several championships.
Detroit squandered an opportunity last year. Is this the only window they will have? Maybe not, but there are no guarantees in the NFL.
