The Green Bay Packers have had running back AJ Dillon in their backfield for the past several seasons, but it appears that Dillon is going on. According to sources who spoke with Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Dillon is considering signing with either the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, or Indianapolis Colts.
Dillon missed the Packers’ final three games due to injury. He had to start a few games last season since Aaron Jones was out due to a hamstring injury.
AJ Dillon carried 13 yards on 178 rushes, scoring two touchdowns and averaged 3.4 yards per carry. Also caught 22 catches for 223 yards and zero touchdowns, with an average of 10.1 yards per reception.
Dillon was a second-round (62nd overall) pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Boston College. He is only 25 years old and will be useful to a football team that requires a second running back. Dillon may possibly be considering a position as a lead back for a football team, though he hasn’t shown much promise in a running back room.
Former Green Bay Packers running back Dillon’s best fit is with the Giants.
Dillon has been employed as a running back by committee throughout his career. Following the loss of Saquon Barkley to the Philadelphia Eagles in NFL free agency, the Giants appear to be heading that path. They signed Devin Singletary and plan to add another running back on the market.
AJ Dillon would be the second rushing back in New York’s offense, which would be an ideal position for him. With the Dallas Cowboys losing Tony Pollard to the Tennessee Titans in NFL free agency, Dillon would immediately become the offense’s number one running back, receiving the majority of the carries.
That is something he would most likely want, but it may not be what Dallas Cowboys fans want. The Indianapolis Colts would be a good fit for Dillon. Jonathan Taylor is the offense’s lead back. Indy needs a capable backup to Taylor.
AJ Dillon appears to be a good match for the Colts’ offense. Indianapolis will run the football according to their current offensive system. In the New York Giants offense, he can serve as a running back down the goal line to help them score.
