Do not adjust your televisions, people. This is actually happening.
According to Adam Schefter, the Packers want to sign free agency safety Xavier McKinney. This comes after a flurry of personnel movements, including plans to release RB Aaron Jones to free agency.
I absolutely love this decision. Rumors circulated that the Eagles were also interested in McKinney, but Gutey yoinked his ass straight up.
There are many difficult decisions being made today, as well as a lot of voodoo paperwork to maximize the impact on the Packers’ salary cap room.
I’m heartbroken by Jones’ departure, but we’ve got to pull all of these movements together and not lose sight of the bigger picture.
Another factor to consider is that Ryan Downard, the Packers defensive back coach, formerly worked with Xavier while at Alabama (thanks to Josh Makovitch on FB for bringing this to my attention).
