The Green Bay Packers and David Bakhtiari have had a turbulent relationship over the last three seasons. Bakhtiari’s career was essentially wrecked after he suffered an ACL tear in December 2020. In two of the last three seasons, he has played one game each.
However, Bakhtiari has been a key component of the Packers’ offense since 2013. He demonstrated once more in Week One of the 2023 season that he can still perform at an elite level. Now, he’s ready to tell them what he feels about his playing future.
Green Bay Packers LT David Bakhtiari makes an announcement on his playing future.
Since being picked as the 109th selection in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL draft out of Colorado, David Bakhtiari has only played for the Green Bay Packers.
Bakhtiari has an amazing Hall of Fame resume in Green Bay, but more work is needed to keep him there. By doing nothing, they would face a $40.02 million cap hit in Bakhtiari’s last year. That is simply too high, given the team’s need for cap room.
Bakhtiari’s release or trade might save about $21 million in total. However, if both sides desire to extend it for another year, a restructure will be required.
Bakhtiari appears to be far from retirement.
