The Green Bay Packers need a safety, either through free agency or the NFL Draft, and Justin Simmons is one of the top safeties on the market as NFL free agency begins next week. Simmons, along with Xavier McKinney, is one of the market’s biggest names.
Justin Simmons was released earlier this week, and several Denver Broncos players were unhappy with the decision. They thought he was a great teammate and locker-room player.
This is the type of defensive player that the Packers need in their locker room for the upcoming season. He has previously bowled professionally for Denver and is 30 years old. Last season with the Denver Broncos, Simmons has 70 tackles, one sack, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, three interceptions, and eight pass deflections.
Justin Simmons wrote a heartfelt message to the Denver Broncos fanbase, and the Green Bay Packers would be an excellent next stop for him.
On Thursday, Simmons sent a poignant letter to the Broncos. Some of the message read:
“God is good.” It’s difficult to express gratitude after 8 years.First and foremost, we want to thank John Elway, Joe Ellis, Mr. Pat Bowlen, and the Bowlen family. From the bottom of my heart, you offered a boy from British Columbia and Stuart, Florida the opportunity to begin a life-changing experience with the elite Broncos organization. You helped me build the foundation for being a better player, guy, and, eventually, captain. I think my game and character exemplified what it meant to be a Bronco.
Simmons will have several suitors next week. If the Packers are unable to sign Xavier McKinney or anyone else on the free agent market, they must go to whatever length to secure Justin Simmons. Green Bay’s defense could use a veteran.
Simmons would likely be named one of the Green Bay Packers’ defensive captains straight soon. He can also produce game-changing plays for a defense that desperately needs it.
