The Green Bay Packers will need to decide what to do with wide receiver Christian Watson in the 2024 season. He was out for a significant period of time last season owing to a hamstring injury. He grabbed 28 passes for 422 yards and five touchdowns, with an average of 15.1 yards per reception.
In addition, quarterback Jordan Love targeted him 53 times last season. Watson was really good in his first season, and many people expected him to take off last season, but he never did. To accompany his struggles, Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, and Dontayvion Wicks all appeared on the scene.
Watson has two years left on his rookie contract, and there is hope that he can turn things around next season as long as he stays healthy. Lombardiave.com blogger Joe Tuman believes the Packers should find a way to trade him this offseason. Tuman wrote about him, saying:
“While some may argue that shipping him out now is undervaluing someone with demonstrated potential, others may say that it is overvaluing him owing to durability concerns. If Watson’s ailments continue to hinder him, his worth will plummet even lower. Given the Packers’ existing roster of young pass catchers, it might be worthwhile to try to move Watson and bring in draft money to help rebuild the team’s defensive unit.
The Green Bay Packers still believe Christian Watson has potential.
There’s a reason why head coach Matt LaFleur always put Watson on the field when he came back into the lineup. Despite his troubles, he was always a menace at home. Christian Watson’s glimpses from last Thanksgiving and the Kansas City Chiefs game appeared to be his get-up-and-go games until he injured himself again.
Green Bay will make sure they do this right with Watson next season. He was once triple-teamed by the Dallas Cowboys in the wild-card round. This is what allowed Romeo Doubs and others to launch their offense. If Christian Watson is utilized as a decoy to get other players to open up, it will be worthwhile, whether fans like it or not.
Watson is staying put for at least the upcoming season. If the same concerns persist, that is a conversation for another time.
