The Green Bay Packers will surely approach the 2024 season with confidence. The second half of the 2023 season demonstrated to the league that this club is no slouch with Jordan Love under center. After an up and down start to the season, the Packers had a very strong second half and finished as one of the last four NFC teams standing. Furthermore, they were only three points from winning the conference championship.
That means the Packers should be receiving high plaudits heading into the 2024 season, right?
Freddie Boston of FanSided pointed out that the Packers are once again being undervalued in off-season rankings:
Love led them (the Packers) to a playoff spot and an upset of the Dallas Cowboys in the first round before falling short to the No. 1 seed San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round.
So what can we anticipate from the Packers in 2024? Vegas has announced odds to win each division next season, and they still believe the Detroit Lions are the best team in the NFC North. Shouldn’t the Packers be receiving more recognition as division contenders?
Let’s look at the odds, and then I’ll break down the Packers’ chances of reclaiming the division.

The Detroit Lions are heavily favored to win the NFC North.
The Detroit Lions had an outstanding 2023-24 season. For the first time in 30 years, the Lions held a playoff game. A crushing defeat in the NFC Championship completed an otherwise remarkable season. However, the Packers were one of the NFL’s hottest teams in the final run.
Despite the Lions’ advantage, the Packers still have a strong chance of winning the NFC North. The Packers finished just behind the Lions in terms of average scoring margin this season. Green Bay also defeated Detroit easily on Thanksgiving.
The Lions may look to be the better team at this stage, but the Packers have one of the league’s youngest rosters, and as we saw in 2023, they may improve significantly as the season develops.
