The Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks finished the 2023 regular season with identical records (9-8). However, the Packers beat Seattle to the final playoff position and took full advantage. As the 2024 offseason began, both teams made significant changes to their coaching staffs.
Seattle hired a new head coach, while the Packers overhauled almost their entire defensive staff.
The Seattle Seahawks could steal a former piece of the Green Bay Packers offense.
Wendell Ferreira of A to Z Sports explained why this trade makes a lot of sense for Seattle:
Before the 2020 draft, I saw Deguara as an ideal candidate for the 49ers. He ended up with the Packers, which made sense given their schematic similarities. As a free agent, he might finally join the Niners as a backup to Kyle Juszczyk’s position.
Green Bay made a third-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft since Jimmy Graham departed to Chicago and Marcedes Lewis was becoming older.
A knee issue prevented the youngster from turning his outstanding last two seasons at Cincinnati into a great debut season. In 2021, the 6-foot-2 tight end enjoyed a rebound season. In 16 games, he caught 25 passes on 33 targets, scoring two scores.
Things appeared to be going well for Deguara, but he hasn’t been able to put it all together and has been passed up on the depth chart for the last two seasons. As newcomers Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft expanded their roles in the team’s passing game, the former University of Cincinnati Bearcat pass catcher appeared in 15 games (four starts).
Despite playing only 17.8% of offensive snaps, Deguara caught eight passes (eight targets) for 65 yards. Musgrave played 42.7% of the offensive snaps and had 34 receptions (46 targets) for 352 yards and one score. Kraft caught 31 passes (40 targets) for 355 yards and two touchdowns while playing 56.6% of the offensive snaps.
The writing appears to be on the wall for Deguara and the Packers, which may be where Seattle comes in.
