BREAKING: Cincinnati Bengals part ways with former draft pick, three-time national championship-winning quarterback.
On Wednesday, the Cincinnati Bengals parted ways with a quarterback who had won three National Championships. Since Joe Burrow’s injury during training camp this summer, the Bengals have signed several quarterbacks.
Joe Burrow had a few injuries this year
In November, Burrow suffered a ligament tear in his wrist, bringing his season to an end. Burrow hopes to return for the Bengals’ OTAs in spring.
The Cincinnati Bengals released a former draft pick
This offseason, the Bengals opened one roster space in expectation of a healthy Burrow. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Bengals have released AJ McCarron.
A.J. McCarron was signed to the 53-man roster in December
McCarron was brought to the Bengals’ practice squad in September when Burrow was recovering from a leg injury. They added him to the 53-man roster in December, when Burrow was lost for the season.
McCarron appeared in two games during the 2023 season. He completed four of five passes for 19 yards.
McCarron’s second stint with the Bengals came in 2023. The highly decorated Alabama quarterback played his first four seasons in the NFL with the Bengals, who took him in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
