Wes Phillips, Vikings offensive coordinator, pleads guilty to careless driving.
In December, Wes Phillips was detained in Minneapolis on suspicion of drunk driving.
Wes Phillips, the Vikings offensive coordinator, pled guilty Thursday to a lesser charge of careless driving, according to court documents, following his December arrest on suspicion of drunk driving.
Phillips’ plea agreement with prosecutors includes one year probation, eight hours of community service, and a $378 fine.
Phillips, 44, was originally charged with a fourth-degree DWI misdemeanor. He was pulled up for speeding on Interstate 394 in Minneapolis on December 8, according to a statement from State Patrol Lt. Jill Frankfurth, and “showed signs of impairment.” He had a blood alcohol level of 0.10%, which exceeded the legal limit of 0.08%.
Phillips is one of coach Kevin O’Connell’s top assistants, having followed him from the Rams to the Vikings in February 2022. He stayed to coach the Vikings indefinitely, despite O’Connell claimed he was “incredibly disappointed.”
“Aside from the standards I have for myself, there are certain standards from the NFL and from the Minnesota Vikings, and I didn’t live up to those standards,” Phillips stated at the time. “The last thing I want to do is draw attention away from the tremendous things these players perform on the field. This was unfortunate. I believe in being accountable and learning from your mistakes, as well as accepting and developing from any discipline that may arise.
