According to Jacob Steinberg, West Ham United have decided not to fire David Moyes for the time being following their 2-0 loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
Writing on his own Twitter account (17 February), the Guardian journalist writes that the club has decided not to make any “panic decisions,” with the manager unlikely to lose his job based on the most recent outcome.
No decision has been taken on the manager’s contract, which is set to expire in the summer, however Steinberg stated it is currently “unlikely” he will be awarded a new agreement given the team’s form and the fact that away fans have turned against him.
The West Ham board is wrong to keep Moyes.
What needs to happen at the London Stadium for the West Ham board to recognize that Moyes must leave at this point?
The away fans have already turned against him, singing songs about his terrible selections and outcomes, and they even held up “Moyes Out” banners after the game at the City Ground, implying that they expected to lose.
It also doesn’t help matters when Moyes tries to fight back publicly with words rather than actions, indicating that the relationship between fans and manager is strained.
West Ham are in a strong position to truly push on, but they need a more progressive manager who can be more daring with team selections and tactics in order to turn bad results into good ones.
Moyes has carried this team as far as he can, and the more he stays, the more he tarnishes his legacy. that’s time for Moyes to go, and the sooner the board realizes that, the better. If he stays at the club beyond the summer, it will be a major mistake.
