Report: Auburn’s Hugh Freeze to employ Kenyatta Watson as director of recruiting research.
Hugh Freeze is slated to appoint Kenyatta Watson as Auburn’s director of recruiting research and strategy.
Carl Reed Jr. of CBS Sports was the first to disclose the news on Thursday.
Watson will be hired after serving as Georgia Tech’s director of scouting and professional liaison for the previous two seasons. According to his bio on Georgia Tech’s website, Watson was “heavily involved in the Yellow Jackets’ recruiting efforts, evaluating both high school student-athletes and those that have entered the NCAA Transfer Portal.” Watson also handled Georgia Tech’s contacts with professional scouts.
The news of Watson’s appointment comes after Freeze expanded Auburn’s recruiting team by hiring Will Redmond in a general manager-like capacity and TJ Randall in a player personnel and scouting role.
Watson spent nine months as Florida State’s director of player relations before joining Georgia Tech.
With the projected arrival of Watson, Auburn’s program will get a well-known name in the Atlanta area, where Watson previously spent a decade training athletes. From 2014 to 2018, Watson was the director of football operations and recruiting at Grayson High School in Logansville, Georgia. Watson assisted almost 120 student-athletes in obtaining college scholarships while at Grayson.
Watson, a native of Deerfield Beach, Florida, played wide receiver for Boston College from 1993 to 1996. Watson’s son, Kenyatta Watson II, plays a defensive back at Georgia Tech.
