West Ham United: Karren Brady makes David Moyes’ sacking attitude apparent with a Liverpool connection.
West Ham vice-chair Karren Brady has cautioned Liverpool to be cautious about who they pick as Jurgen Klopp’s successor.
Brady’s comments in her column for The Sun’s print edition [17 February, page 65] provide insight into West Ham’s thinking with Moyes.
The Scotsman’s future is uncertain because he will be out of contract at the London Stadium in the summer, and West Ham have had bad results recently.
Klopp’s situation is unique in that he has chosen to step aside, but finding a manager to succeed the German will be challenging.
Liverpool seeking for Jurgen Klopp’s replacement.
“Finding a manager is easy. “How successful he will be is impossible to predict,” Brady wrote.
“All signs lead to Xabi Alonso taking Jurgen Klopp’s place at Anfield, and he will be a great fit, boasting a resume full of similar feats to the German.
“A subtle reminder that past accomplishments may not always ensure future success.
“At West Ham, we thought we had pulled off a coup by hiring Manuel Pellegrini, who previously worked at Real Madrid and won the Premier League with Manchester City.
“It didn’t work; the partnership lasted 18 months. Sometimes the fit, understanding, and trust between the manager, the players, the supporters, and the board determines success or failure.”
David Moyes faces an unclear future at West Ham.
Reading between the lines, Brady would prefer to have someone in place who she can trust and knows exactly what she is getting from.
The manager and the board share mutual respect at Moyes. However, Brady believes that bringing in a higher-profile figure with previous success will not ensure success at West Ham.
She is not wrong, of course, and the Pellegrini example is especially relevant. However, having burned before should not deter the club from considering managers who have had success abroad rather than a consistent Eddie.
It’s difficult to tell if Moyes will stay or go. Should he leave, the club must be ambitious in their hiring process and bring in someone who can take West Ham to the next level.
Pellegrini was a failure, but it does not guarantee that the next man to succeed Moyes will be.
