Brumfield was the Yellow Jackets’ special teams coach last season.
According to 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz, Georgia Tech Special Teams Coach Ricky Brumfield is scheduled to interview with the Los Angeles Rams for the position of assistant special teams coach.
Brumfield was the Yellow Jackets’ special teams coach last season and one of their top recruiters, with strong ties to the Louisiana area.
According to Zenitz, he is only interviewing and has not accepted the position. This will be something to keep an eye on.
Georgia Tech’s special teams were a catastrophe in 2022, but have improved under Brumfield this season.
From his biography at Georgia Tech Athletics:
“Brumfield joined Tech in 2022 after serving as associate head coach, special teams coordinator, and outside linebackers coach at Florida International.” He spent four seasons as special teams coordinator at Virginia before joining FIU, where he helped the Cavaliers win the ACC Coastal Division championship in 2019. UVA never finished below.500 in his four seasons with the team, despite having six consecutive losing seasons prior to his arrival.
He has also been the special teams coordinator at Texas-San Antonio (2016-17), Western Kentucky (2013-15), Nicholls State (2011-12), Fairmont State (2004-10), and Union (Ky.) College (2001-03).
Brumfield has substantial coaching experience in the National Football League, having participated in the NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship program with the Pittsburgh Steelers (2006), Atlanta Falcons (2007), Green Bay Packers (2008), Buffalo Bills (2010) and Tennessee Titans (2021). He also worked as a volunteer assistant coach for the Steelers from 2007 to 2009.
He attended Utah State University, where he was a four-year letterwinner and two-year starting wide receiver. He helped lead the Aggies to two Big West Conference titles and a spot in the 1997 Humanitarian Bowl. In 2000, he also played one season professionally with the Bismarck Blaze of the Indoor Football League.
