Police reported that no one is thought to have been critically hurt in the incident, which created massive traffic delays on Friday morning.
On Friday morning, February 9, one person was rushed to hospital after a collision on the A19 that caused massive traffic delays near Sunderland.
An collision involving an overturned vehicle on the A19 Southbound from A690 Durham Road (Herrington Interchange, Farringdon) to B1404 Seaton Lane (Seaton Interchange, Seaton) halted all traffic. The one-vehicle collision closed the route for around 30 minutes, bringing traffic to a halt.
No one is believed to have been seriously injured in the accident, which was handled by police and ambulances. The vehicle is presently being recovered, and drivers should expect continued delays on the A19 Southbound as of lunchtime on Friday.
A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: “At 10.30 a.m. today (Friday), we got a complaint of a one-vehicle incident on the A19 northbound, near the A690 turn-off at Herrington Interchange in Sunderland. The automobile was said to have overturned.
“Emergency services are on scene, and no one is reported to have been seriously injured in the crash. Recovery of the vehicle is presently underway, and one lane of the roadway is closed.”
A statement from the North East Ambulance Service added: “We were alerted to a one-vehicle road traffic collision on the A19 at Doxford Park at 10.50 this morning. We despatched a double-crewed ambulance and took one patient to Sunderland Royal Hospital.
