Caleb Williams is ‘not extraordinary’ or ‘unique like a Patrick Mahomes’ according to high known NFL pundit.
The 2024 NFL Draft is still some months away, but the argument about Caleb Williams and what the Chicago Bears should do with their first overall pick has already heated up.
Merril Hoge, a former Chicago Bear, Pittsburgh Steeler, and long-time NFL pundit, spoke candidly about Caleb Williams and Justin Fields this week. Regarding Caleb Williams, Hoge had to say this:
“One thing is certain: he isn’t extraordinary. He is not as special as Patrick Mahomes. And I hope the Bears don’t say, ‘Well, let’s attempt to make up for our error of passing up Patrick Mahomes by going after Patrick Mahomes. The youngster is not Patrick Mahomes. That’s not even close.
In the whole video below, Hoge discusses Justin Fields as well.
Hoge believes Justin Fields has made significant progress with the Bears, despite all of the coordinator and coaching changes. Hoge goes on to say, “There’s enough growth and hope there that I would not…let him go because I see enough there.”
There will be much debate about what the Chicago Bears should do with the first overall pick, as well as what other clubs could do if they trade for it. For the time being, many people believe Caleb Williams is the obvious first choice, but Merril Hoge disagrees.
