The Baltimore Ravens are attempting to move on after losing the 2024 AFC Championship to the Kansas City Chiefs. It’s a heartbreaking finale for a club that analysts and fans regarded as the best team to beat before the playoffs began.
One of the most important areas that Baltimore Ravens GM Eric DaCosta would focus on is the team’s defense. Two of their top performers are about to hit free agency, and finding a means to keep them together or establishing a strong enough core to handle either player’s departure is the top priority on his summer to-do list.
He’s seeking for a solution for two players: Josh Madubuike and Patrick Queen. Both were critical to the Ravens’ dominant defense versus the majority of the NFL. With their status uncertain, finding a positive solution to this issue is vital to keeping the Ravens competitive in the foreseeable future.“
We’ll have all those decisions, I think made at some point coming soon, we don’t have a lot of time,” DeCosta was quoted as saying. “But we’ll make those judgments in the following weeks and know what’s best for us to do; we haven’t just started thinking about it, clearly. It’s something we’ve been thinking about. I believe Justin had a terrific year, as did Patrick Queen; those two players obviously had great seasons as Pro Bowlers, and we’ll have a strong plan in place for them.”
Mudubuike was particularly productive in the trenches, finishing the season with a team-high 13.0 sacks, 33 quarterback hits, and 12 tackles for loss. Meanwhile, Queen was a productive rusher for the Baltimore Ravens this season, recording 3.5 sacks, 84 solo stops, 9 tackles for loss, 1 forced fumble, and one fumble recovery.
If the Baltimore Ravens can maintain both players while still having enough cap space to spend in free agency, they will be able to quickly retool and look for another deep Super Bowl run the following season.
