Even with the NFL’s youngest roster, the Green Bay Packers defied expectations and made the playoffs this season. However, Brian Gutekunst believes there is no need for the players to take it easy until the next season begins.
This season, however, Jordan Love’s spectacular performance has left everyone impressed. After Aaron Rodgers was dealt to the New York Jets, Green Bay’s top quarterback rose to the occasion and guided the team to the playoffs.
With Love turning 26 later this year, there’s a lot of potential in his future. Despite growing pains, such as his costly mistake in their defeat to the San Francisco 49ers, Love’s talent and leadership throughout the season are reason enough to purchase high on his stock in the future.
Despite Love’s outstanding performance and that of other players on the squad, Matt LaFleur stated that the team’s future is uncertain.
GREEN BAY PACKERS’ BRIAN GUTEKUNST WARNS PLAYERS NOT TO REST ON THEIR LAURELS.
Speaking to the media, general manager Brian Gutekunst reinforced LaFleur’s message to the players.
“Each year is different. The most important thing for (the rookies) heading into Year 2 is to recognize that just because they had some success in Year 1 does not guarantee their spots, and that they must work hard and be prepared to compete once we get started. Again, their future is bright, but it really depends on what they accomplish from here on out,” Gutekunst said.
Although the Packers exceeded expectations this season, Gutekunst’s warning was intended to keep everyone on their toes and prevent them from resting on their laurels. It also alters everyone’s emphasis to improve as the team faces new opportunities and challenges.
The Packers intend to enhance the roster this summer by either drafting or signing free agents. In any event, Green Bay fans may look forward to next season.
