Before the transfer market closed on Thursday evening, Leeds United, Sheffield United, and Everton were reportedly interested in signing Leicester City defender Harry Souttar.
Leeds United reportedly missed out on signing Leicester City defender Harry Souttar before the transfer market closed. According to Football Insider, the Whites’ late loan-to-buy bid for Souttar was rejected by the Foxes, who now lead the Championship.
According to the article, Leeds, Sheffield United, and Everton have all expressed interest in Souttar’s availability. The 25-year-old, who is now in Qatar with his Australian teammates for the Asian Cup, has fallen out of favour at City. He has only made four appearances for the Foxes, with Wout Faes and Jannik Vestergaard ahead of him in the starting lineup.
However, it is thought that City were hesitant to strengthen a prospective promotion competitor during the winter window. Their preference was to transfer the Australian international on a permanent basis, and the Whites, who signed Connor Roberts on deadline day, only made a loan offer for the former Stoke City player.
The Foxes reportedly paid £15 million for Souttar, who is under contract at the King Power Stadium until June 2028. He has made 64 appearances for City.
The Foxes were left disappointed on deadline day after they were unable to seal a deal for Inter Milan midfielder Stefano Sensi. Despite flying in for a physical, no agreement could be struck with the Serie A team before the window closed on Thursday evening.
Enzo Maresca refused to acknowledge Sensi’s switch failure during his pre-match press conference. Maresca, whose team faces Stoke today, said: “I love Sensi. Sensi isn’t here; he plays for Inter.” Now the attention is on Stoke.”
