We’re covering everything you need to know about the Dallas Cowboys’ hunt for a new defensive coordinator.
On Thursday, the Dallas Cowboys announced that defensive coordinator Dan Quinn would leave the organization to become the Washington Commanders’ next head coach.
Overall, Quinn was the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator for three seasons and produced excellent results. The second half of his final season in Dallas had some challenges, prompting concerns about what happened.
As a result of Quinn’s resignation, the Cowboys will undoubtedly conduct interviews in the coming days to find a new defensive coordinator. Here at BTB, we’ve created a tracker to help you remember all of the key details. The weekend before Quinn officially left, it was reported that former Commanders head coach Ron Rivera would be a possibility if the position become available.
In the immediate aftermath of Quinn’s resignation, cornerback Trevon Diggs supported defensive backs coach Al Harris for the DC position.
Various claims, such as this one, have arisen that Joe Whitt Jr. (an internal candidate to be promoted to the job Quinn is leaving behind) is slated to accompany Quinn to Washington.
The Dallas Morning News said that external candidates will be interviewed (including Ron Rivera next week), which could lead to Joe Whitt Jr.’s departure.
The DMN also reported that Mike Zimmer, a former Cowboys defensive coordinator (among other things, including former Minnesota Vikings head coach), is interested in the role.
