On Monday, the Pittsburgh Steelers suffered an unpleasant setback to the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Wild Card game. The Bills were huge favorites going into the game, but Pittsburgh kept it tight until the end of the fourth quarter. Steelers fans are upset with the league, however, because a disputed call interrupted a drive by their offensive that would have put them in striking distance, and they are now calling the NFL “rigged” after seeing the footage.
Pittsburgh Steelers Fans Claim The Game Was ‘Rigged’
On fourth down with the game on the line, Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph launched a pass to star wide receiver George Pickens that, if completed, would have resulted in a first down. However, the two did not connect, and the play ended in a turnover on downs. Fans and experts argue that there should have been a pass interference call on the play since a Bills defender was seen tugging down Pickens while he was attempting to make a play with the ball. This prompted Steelers fans to criticize the NFL, claiming that the penalty should have been called and that it is “rigged.”
How Will the Steelers’ Offseason Look?
Fans believed that this should have been pass interference, and that the Bills received no penalties throughout the game, allowing them to win. While this call would have provided the Steelers with a new set of downs, it seems unlikely that the call affected the outcome of the game.
The Bills won 31-17, thus they will now host the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Divisional game next Sunday. Pittsburgh’s season is finished, and there will be many things to answer in the summer. Will Mike Tomlin be the head coach next season, and will Kenny Pickett be the starting quarterback from now on?
