Lamar Jackson, the Baltimore Ravens’ MVP candidate, is now 2-4 in career playoff games following a 17-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.
This loss also extends Jackson’s losing run against postseason teams that score more than two touchdowns. One of his postseason victories came this year, when a rookie head coach and quarterback were only able to score 10 points against the Baltimore Ravens’ legendary defense.
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson’s turnovers stopped them from scoring enough scores.
The Baltimore Ravens’ defense performed admirably against one of the most dangerous quarterbacks in NFL history. The Ravens only allowed Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs to score 17 points.
Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens offense were unable to outscore them due to turnovers. One of the turnovers, caused by wide receiver Zay Flowers, was not Jackson’s fault. Flowers went for the end zone at the goal line, and Chiefs cornerback L’Jarius Sneed made one of the game’s key plays.
One of the other turnovers made by the Baltimore Ravens occurred when Lamar Jackson was unaware of pressure on his blindside and had the ball stripped from him deep in Ravens territory.
Jackson was also responsible for another fumble, which occurred when he made an ill-advised throw into triple coverage. The Ravens were running out of opportunities at this point, and they had the ball on the Chiefs’ 25-yard line. It was only second down, and even an incomplete pass would have given the Ravens another chance.
“I’m not frustrated at all,” Jackson explained. “I’m angry because I lost. We are one game away from the Super Bowl. We’ve been waiting for this opportunity for a long time, and we came up short. But I believe our club will improve this offseason, get right, grind harder, and aim to be in this position again — but on the opposite side of victory.”
Lamar Jackson, the Baltimore Ravens quarterback, underperformed in prior playoff games.
Jackson threw for more than 200 yards in a postseason game for the second time, this time against the Kansas City Chiefs. Jackson also threw 59 passes and had two interceptions in a divisional playoff defeat to the Titans.
Jackson’s completion rate was less than 55% on both occasions when he threw for more than 200 yards. Jackson has completed 60% or more of his passes in two playoff games.
One aspect of Jackson’s previous postseason performances that cannot be overlooked is his ground game. Jackson had only 54 yards on the ground in his most recent loss to the Chiefs. It was Jackson’s third postseason game with fewer than 100 yards rushing.
Jackson rushed for at least 100 yards in both playoff victory. In addition, he carried at least 11 times in each triumph. Jackson just got eight rushing attempts in the loss to the Chiefs.
Overall, Jackson has thrown six touchdown passes and six interceptions in the playoffs. He’s never been sacked fewer than three times in a postseason game.
The Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson may not have a defense as good in the future, as defensive coordinator Mike McDonald interviewed for numerous head coaching positions. Jackson may need to figure out how to make a greater impact on the game and play safer with the ball in order to win more playoff games.
