The Green Bay Packers are on the verge of doing something extraordinary. Despite expectations that the Packers would be rebuilding, they finished as one of the four remaining NFC clubs. They were also three points shy of clinching the conference championship.
With Jordan Love guiding this youthful Packers offense, they proved they can score against any defense. Today, General Manager Brian Gutekunst stated that he fully expects one substantial contract extension in the near future.
Green Bay Packers General Manager Expects Massive Contract Commitment By 2024.
According to Ryan Wood from USA Today:
Brian Gutekunst expects to negotiate a long-term contract with Jordan Love this summer. Says it’s critical for #Packers stability to lock that in.
Here is his complete statement regarding Jordan Love’s future:
Jordan Love earned his extension.
Jordan Love performed as well as any quarterback in the second half of the season. Love’s dominance over the last eight games helped the Packers finish 6-2 and secure a playoff spot.
During that time, Love completed more than 70% of his passes while throwing for 2,150 yards, 18 touchdowns, and one interception, yielding a passer rating of 112.7.
He scored three touchdowns and had no interceptions against the Detroit Lions, Kansas City Chiefs, and Minnesota Vikings. In the wild-card game against the Dallas Cowboys, he produced another near-perfect passer rating.
Love would rank near the top of any list of the best quarterbacks in the NFC in 2023.
Jordan Love: 64.2 completion percentage, 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 96.1 rating, and four running touchdowns.
Jalen Hurts: 65.4 completion percentage, 3,858 yards, 23 touchdowns, 15 interceptions, 89.1 rating, and 15 rushing touchdowns.
Baker Mayfield: 64.3 completion percentage, 4,044 yards, 28 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, 94.6 rating, and one rushing touchdown.
Geno Smith: 64.7 completion percentage, 3,624 yards, 20 touchdowns, 9 interceptions, 92.1 rating, and one rushing touchdown.
The Packers think they have discovered their quarterback of the future and are prepared to commit to him in the long run.
