Leeds United manager Daniel Farke is fully aware that his club could use an extra signing or two before the window closes on Thursday night, particularly in defence.
The Whites are preparing for a trip to Bristol City on Friday, but first there’s the final two days of the transfer window.
Daniel Farke has yet to add to his squad, while many around him have reached ambitious agreements, which is set to change before 11 p.m. on Thursday.
Daniel Farke issued a transfer update today.
Given the need for additions, Farke’s pre-match press conference was bound to include a discussion about transfers.
Farke, on the other hand, has traditionally been cagey when it comes to answering inquiries regarding specific signings and names.
Speaking to the media, he said the following on potential signings (via the YEP):
“I do not wish to provide a percentage. The most serious issue is that we are limited in our financial capabilities. During January, pricing can be outrageous, and we must follow the regulations. We have to pay a price for what happened in the past; we have a lot of players out on loan, and sticking to FFP is difficult. It is unnecessary to make too many comments. We’d like to make one or two defensive additions, but we’ll only do so if we’re completely convinced.”
Farke answers Ben Godfrey’s question.
Everton’s Ben Godfrey, who started Tuesday night’s 0-0 draw with Fulham, has been heavily connected with Elland Road this week.
He, of course, played under Farke during the pair’s time at Norwich, but the German was unwilling to discuss any specific names:
“I never comment on names because I’m too respectful to know that other players are under contract with other clubs and I don’t want them to speak on our guys. Just talk about business when it’s done.”
The huge updated Stuart Dallas quiz: Can Leeds United fans get 20/20?
As much as Farke has acted very zen throughout the window on the topic of incomings, he is obviously suggesting here that he could do with more.
Our defence appears to be quite thin at the moment, with Pascal Struijk out and no natural right-backs in our roster.
A right-back is required if Leeds are to take the second half of the season seriously, since a 17-year-old midfielder starting every week is insufficient depth.
