Latest Leicester City news from LeicestershireLive: Gary Lineker analyzes the Foxes’ draw with Ipswich Town in the top-of-the-table game in the Championship.
Gary Lineker has commented on Leicester City’s draw with Ipswich Town in the Championship’s top-of-the-table showdown.
The Foxes appeared to have secured victory at the King Power Stadium on Monday night, leading 1-0 in the last minutes. Enzo Maresca’s side took the lead thanks to an own goal by Leif Davis, but Ipswich substitute Jeremy Sarmiento equalised in the 89th minute.
The result puts City seven points clear at the top of the league, with Ipswich second. And in a post on X, Lineker said: “Bit of a blow to concede late but (Ipswich) were much improved in the 2nd half, and ultimately it’s not the worst result for either side.”
Maresca also admitted it was a blow to concede an equaliser so late. “It’s always a shame when you drop points at the end,” he said. “It happened there (in Ipswich) and happened tonight. It’s football, even if you go 2-0 up, until the end there is always danger. Overall, with the way we performed, I’m very happy.”
Meanwhile, Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna said: “The second half was much more like ourselves and we can take a lot of confidence from it. On the balance of the second half we probably deserved to get something from the game.
“We are coming back a lot, not losing many games, which is a reflection of the culture and togetherness in the group.
“I really liked the second half, there was a real conviction in the dressing room at half-time.
“I thought in the first half we didn’t manage to find that belief in ourselves but there was a real intent to go out in the second half and show that. There’s so long to go we have to focus on ourselves.
