The 2023 NFL season was a topsy-turvy one for Green Bay Packers defensive back Jaire Alexander. Among his lowlights in that campaign was when he got suspended for a game due to conduct detrimental to the team. That was a huge decision on the part of the Packers because they needed all hands on deck in a must-win matchup in Week 17 versus the Minnesota Vikings.
Green Bay Packers HC Matt LaFleur Gets Honest About His Observation of Jaire Alexander After Controversial Suspension
Alexander could have also used that suspension to further fuel whatever resentment he was already feeling toward head coach Matt LaFleur or the Green Bay Packers. Fortunately for the Packers, it did not come to that point. Alexander even showed maturity and went back to work with the right attitude after the end of his suspension. LaFleur was left impressed with the behavior Alexander showed up with after the ordeal (h/t Packers Wire).
“I thought he responded, he did an outstanding job,” LaFleur said. “Sometimes, whether if it’s in football or life, sometimes you go through some hardship and you’re better for it. I think Ja could sit here and tell you, as tough as that was, really, on everybody here, I do think our level of communication will be so much clearer and consistent. I think there’s a lot of good that actually ended up coming out of that.”
After the Packers defeated the Vikings, the Packers got Alexander back into action, and he became among the top contributors to Green Bay’s defense the rest of the way.
Much is expected of Alexander, as he’s an expensive asset for the Green Bay Packers. The Packers need him to not just be available al the time, but play at a high level, something he will look to provide in 2024. Alexander signed a massive four-year, $84 million extension with the Packers back in 2022.
