The Baltimore Ravens released a veteran running back who won the Super Bowl last season with the Kansas City Chiefs. The Ravens made the move a few days before their Divisional Round matchup with the Houston Texans on Saturday.
J.K. Dobbins, the Ravens’ running back, is out for the season after suffering an Achilles injury in Week 1. The Ravens, who have had many injuries at running back this season, added veteran running back Melvin Gordon to the active roster on December 19th. Gordon has 26 carries for 81 yards and one touchdown this season.
The Baltimore Ravens waive Gordon
However, after signing star running back Dalvin Cook to the practice squad in early January, the Ravens no longer require Gordon to be on the 53-man roster. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the Ravens waived Gordon on Wednesday.
Should he clear waivers, we’ll see if the Ravens decide to bring Gordon back to the practice squad this week. Gordon was on the practice squad for the Chiefs last season when they won the Super Bowl.
Gordon’s sudden release Wednesday likely means the Ravens are set to sign Cook to the 53-man roster this week.
