Jordan Love’s success this season has not only positioned him well for a lucrative long-term contract from the Green Bay Packers, but he can also improve his earnings on his current deal based on how well they perform in the playoffs.
According to ESPN.com, if the Packers win the Super Bowl, Love’s basic salary in 2024 may increase by up to $4 million.
If the Packers defeat the Dallas Cowboys in the NFC Wild Card Game on Sunday, the fourth-year quarterback will receive a $500,000 raise. He may increase his bonus by $1 million if they win the NFC Championship Game and Super Bowl 58.
Love had an extra $1 million at stake in Green Bay’s Week 18 game against the Chicago Bears, according to ESPN’s Rob Demovsky.
“Love has yet another $1 million bonus if he reaches any of the following categories: 10 wins (which he won’t hit), making the playoffs, or a top-10 ranking in passer rating and top 10-ranking in touchdown passes,” Demovsky said in a blog post.
Despite the fact that the Packers fell one win shy of ten in the regular season, Love finished second in the NFL with 32 touchdown passes, earning him a $1 million bonus.
Love signed a one-year extension in May to replace the fifth-year option on his rookie contract as Green Bay’s starting quarterback. The contract extension guaranteed him $13.5 million in 2024, with the possibility of increasing to $22.5 million.
Love’s contract was unusual in that the fifth-year option, which had to be exercised by May 2, would have guaranteed him $20.3 million in 2024.
Even with some of his escalators being hit, the Packers will get one more year of Love on a team-friendly deal, but he’s positioned himself very nicely for a large extension in the near future.
With a 6-2 record over the final eight games, Love led Green Bay to a playoff berth. During this time, he threw for 2,150 yards, 18 touchdowns, one interception, and completed 70.3 percent of his passes.
On Sunday at AT&T Stadium, the Packers and Cowboys will rekindle their historic rivalry in the first playoff game between the two clubs since January 2017.
