The Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles both have doubts about their head coaches heading into Wild Card weekend. On Monday, the Steelers and Eagles both dropped postseason games. This offseason, we’ll explore at a trade that might send Mike Tomlin to the Philadelphia Eagles.
A rumor has circulated that Tomlin may forgo the 2024 season with the Steelers due to a contract dispute. Tomlin has never started a season in Pittsburgh while in the final year of his contract.
Philadelphia’s story is much different.
The Eagles are loaded with talent, particularly at quarterback. However, they underperformed at a vital juncture in the season. The Eagles concluded the season with six losses in their final seven games. According to Mike Florio of NBC Sports, there was speculation that the Eagles might break ways with head coach Nick Sirianni if they made a quick exit from the playoffs:
“If things continue to go poorly against the Bucs, there’s an unmistakable undercurrent that a change isn’t out of the question.” The availability of Bill Belichick might be crucial…
It’s possible that the Eagles don’t want Sirianni to stress out before of Monday’s game. It’s possible they wouldn’t make a move until they were positive they’d get Belichick.
During their losing streak, the Eagles’ locker room has become toxic.
The Pittsburgh Steelers trade Tomlin in this trade proposal
If Tomlin wants to part with the Steelers, Pittsburgh should absolutely seek a trade to try and receive compensation for a highly-valued coach. The Eagles would make sense as a trade partner for the Steelers because itโs a situation in which Tomlin would flourish.
The Eagles have a talented roster and a franchise quarterback. Tomlin has dealt with a patchwork team in Pittsburgh for several seasons. The quarterback situation hasnโt been ideal for the Steelers since the mid-2010s. Tomlin could fix issues with the current Eaglesโ defense.
Hereโs a trade that would work for both sides:
Steelers receive
- 2024 second-round pick
Eagles receive
- Tomlin
The Eagles would gain a head coach who could lead their talented roster to a Super Bowl win. The Steelers would receive the necessary capital to start their rebuild. The Steelers must search for a new quarterback and rebuild their offensive line.
