Victor Boniface, a forward for Bayer Leverkusen, disclosed that he was on the verge of giving up football at the age of 21.
He stated that the idea came about as a result of a regrettable injury he sustained just two weeks after signing with the Norwegian team FK Bodø/Glimt in 2019.
When the 23-year-old striker looked back on his time in Norway, he said it was a turbulent time for him, with many bad experiences outweighing the good ones.
“I lived in Norway for roughly three years. We finished second once and won the league twice. But in terms of football, I found it to be chaotic. For me, it was extremely awful. I suppose I have more unpleasant stories than good stories there,” Boniface said during a recent episode of Mikel Obi’s podcast.
“But that’s life, you know,” he continued. Two weeks after signing in Norway, I suffered an ACL injury. I came close to giving up football at age 21.
Boniface recently expressed his unhappiness with the ongoing problems given by injuries, following his terrible setback that stopped him from playing in the 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire.
Recently, the footballer bemoaned on his X handle, writing: “U20 Nations Cup got injured 7 days before Nations cup.”
The Super Eagles suffered an injury six days prior to the Nations Cup.
“God alone knows the reason.”
