Gerard Pique, a former player for Barcelona, has stated that he would like to return to football, but as a coach.
Pique’s declaration comes a year after the Spanish international football player declared his retirement from the game, according to Naija News.
The 36-year-old, who won the 2010 FIFA World Cup, said on social media on Tuesday that, after giving it some thought, he has chosen to return to the field, although as a coach.
“I’ve decided to go back to playing football. I will be coaching this time instead than playing because I really miss it. By the end of the week, I will provide additional information,” Pique said on his X handle.
Pique enjoyed a prosperous career that included victories in the U-19 and 2012 European Championships.
In addition, he shared in several triumphs with his beloved FC Barcelona, where he played with world-class players like Lionel Messi, Daniel Alves, Carles Puyol, and current team captain Xavi.
During his career with Barcelona, Pique accumulated an amazing record of 616 appearances.
His accomplishments were particularly noteworthy as he won the Copa del Rey seven times, the La Liga title nine times, and the FIFA Club World Cup three times.
He has demonstrated his abilities on the international front by winning the UEFA Champions League trophy three times, one of which came in 2008 while he was a player for Manchester United.
