Bayer Leverkusen have reported that Nigerian striker, Victor Boniface, had a successful operation on Wednesday, January 10, to cure a groin problem.
Victor Boniface has started his recuperation process, which might take till April of this year. Due to an injury, he was forced to withdraw from the Super Eagles of Nigeria 2023 AFCON roster.
Today, Wednesday, Victor Boniface underwent a successful procedure in Berlin. Later this week, the striker will return to Leverkusen to begin his recuperation process, the club stated on X.
Remember that a week or so prior to the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast, the 23-year-old Boniface suffered the injury while practicing with the Super Eagles in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The only option left to Eagles coach Jose Peseiro was to bring in OGC Nice attacker Terem Moffi, who hasn’t yet been added to the team as of this writing.
Victor Boniface will be a significant miss for the Eagles when the 2023 AFCON commence on January 13. As the squad’s top striker thus far this season, he will also be greatly missed by his former team, Bayer Leverkusen.
Take note that in all competitions, Boniface has scored 16 goals, which is a season high for Leverkusen.
His ability to score goals and his general teamwork have made him a vital part of Xabi Alonso’s squad as they attempt to win their first Bundesliga title.
After 16 games, Bayer Leverkusen leads the table with 42 points. On Saturday, January 13, they take on Augsburg in their next Bundesliga match.
